Now that summer is over, we can start thinking about doing something with our hair other than cursing the frizz and corralling it into a sloppy ponytail. The more we write these posts the more we wonder why anyone likes summer anyway. (Check in with us in a month.)
Now that hair is actually workable again, we thought we’d help you capitalize on it by telling you about some of fall’s hottest hair trends.

A simple switch-up

One of the easiest but most quietly effective styles we’re seeing on runways and in fall lookbooks is a perfectly straight center part. You don’t have to change anything else about the way you wear your hair, you just have to part it down the center for an easy overhaul. The only reason we can think to avoid this style is if you’ve got some regrowth issues going on. Get yourself to a salon, then consider it.

A low-key look

Our favorite casual style for fall is something we’re calling bad girl ballerina. Picture the tight, low-to-medium buns ballerinas most often wear. Now picture it completely messed up. Braids and twists are still going strong for fall 2014, but we can’t be the only ones who just don’t have time for a milkmaid ‘do every day. Slap your hair into a bun, leave a few rough ends, and dig your fingers into the hair on your scalp to loosen it up a little.

For the adventurous

If you’re ready to try something different and completely on trend, you’ve got to go Mod Squad this fall. From Versace to Nina Ricci to Oscar de la Renta, we’ve been seeing stick-straight strands with big-time volume, especially at the crown. Prep your strands with a strengthening shampoo like Dead Sea Premier’s Minerals to Go Salt Shampoo, be sure to use a heat styling protectant spray, and pair the look with dramatic lashes.
