No-fuss hair tips for summer
Though you may feel your office dress code may demand otherwise, we stand by our proclamation that summer is no time for flat irons. Nor is it time for curling irons, or blow dryers. Why should you have to blast your head with heat when the weather is already doing that for you?
Yes, we hear your unfortunate but predictable answer: because that’s what it takes to look good.
What if we told you we had a few ideas for keeping your hair looking good while also keeping you cool? Would we be your early summer heroes? We assume so. Here they are.
Go braid or go home
After you get out of the shower, go about your morning routine of moisturizing, applying makeup and eating a nutritious breakfast that is definitely not a brownie. Who would eat a brownie for breakfast? We plead the fifth.
While you’re doing all of that, your hair will go from wet to damp. Once it’s air-dried a bit it’s in ideal condition to be swept into the braided hairstyle of your choice. We personally recommend a swoopy, off-center, loose over-the-shoulder braid. But if you’ve got some mad braiding skills up your sleeves, feel free to let loose with a milkmaid braid. Not only will your hair look good on day one, but once you take the braid out you should have waves for day two.
A low bun
Wearing your slightly-damp hair in a low bun works similar to the braid idea in that you’ll have a style for day one and day two. Once you shake the bun out you’ll have big, droopy waves for the next day. A spritz of dry shampoo will get your hair back in perfectly clean condition if you’re worried about the oils and sweat that can accumulate in warm weather.
Embrace the salt
Have you ever noticed that your hair tends to look amazing after you’ve been swimming in the ocean? It has those great beachy waves along with that distinct texture, not to mention that saltwater smell. Even if you’re not lucky enough to be able to swim in the ocean every day, you can look like you do. Use a mineral salt shampoo like Dead Sea Premier’s Minerals to Go Salt Shampoo, as well as a beachy texturizing spray like Bumble and Bumble’s Surf Waves for sexy, heat-free hair.
